Disaster struck as I was working out some final bumps in the abalone inlay! Ahhhh!!!!
Hmm. Opportunity to try something else. Luckily, the pieces all fit together nicely. So I started by super gluing them to a thin piece of Indian rosewood that was leftover from the back of the guitar. This created a nice stable base to work off. I then sanded the rosewood flush with the inlay.
Next I used a forstner bit to cut a 1″ diameter recess to match the inlay and set the disk in place.
I secured the disk/logo into place with some 5 minute epoxy mixed with some rosewood sawdust, making sure that I did not get any epoxy into the inlay area. Finally I flooded the inlay with multiple layers of super glue. This resulted in a 3-dimensional look to the inlay, where the interior edges of the inlay are visible and the bottom of the inlay area is rosewood that closely resembles the headstock overlay.
Once the lacquer coats are on it will really pop! On to shaping the neck!
